Game 143 - Trident Realm - 2020/05/10

Greetings!

In the second game at 2300 points per side I played against Jeff again! We were about to submit our army lists for a local online tournament to be played on Universal Battle 2 . More about the tournament in the next battle report :)

I noticed in the past that even if I may not be able to play many games prior to the event, it does pay off to play a game or two. I did not intend to make many changes to the army list but I wanted to see if the items choice and allocation is what I would like to play with during 4-battles tournament.

Jeff also wanted to have one more game to decide on the final list. But what is also important, we wanted to play with the use of an online chess clock to be used in the tournament. We used the one recommended by Michael, the tournament organiser:

We were allocated 10 minutes each for the deployment, followed by 90 minutes each for the game. It looks like a lot of time in comparison to normal tournament. However, some games on UB2 are done with the use of chat. And even if you are talking directly to your opponent, the online games always take longer for me. I was thus very intrigued and I hoped I would not time out!

Jeff decided to take Trident Realm to the tournament and here is the army he used for this battle (spoiler alert, he made some last minute changes to it before submitting the list to the event):

Game 141 - Trident Realm - 2020/04/19

Greetings!

In the second game I have played after a break I had another great opportunity to learn from the Master himself! Jeff is always happy to play even though his gaming schedule seems to be super busy!

By the way, if you have not listened to one of the most recent Counter Charge podcasts, here is the link to the episode where you can listen to the Master himself. I highly recommend it!

As you have probably noticed from my previous battle reports, Jeff is constantly experimenting with new versions of his army lists, even if he is playing with the force from a single faction for a period of time.

Thus you can always count on some variations, even if Jeff has some principles he usually follow in the way he designs his armies (go and check the podcast to learn more about it!). This time, Jeff returned to Trident Realm of Neretica and here are some details of the list he took (we played at 2000 points per side):

Game 118 - Trident Realms - 2019/08/03

Greetings!

Some time ago Ed, one of my most regular opponents, asked if we can play a game at 2600 points. He needed some practice before the tournament he was about to attend. I thought it is a great idea to try and upscale the army even further than 2250 points. This is the upper limit I have reached so far, mainly to be able to field the army with fully painted models.

And this is what I did. Instead of building a new army list, I decided to add something to the existing force. I also wanted to stick to the previous condition, i.e. to include models I have already painted. Just in case I have the opportunity to play the game with them, rather than on Universal Battle 2.

Ed used this opportunity to create something quite spectacular. He chose to add an allied contingent of the Herd but used it for the modelling purposes. He used the units from the Herd list to bring the models that are still perfectly in line with his Trident Realm army! Stampede is represented by a giant Kraken, Guardian Brutes are in the form of huge walking Crabs and Centaurs are half women, half snakes creatures. I think it is just an awesome example on how to expand the exiting range of units/models with allied forces that in the end creates a very unique looking army. Ed was kind enough to send a group photo of his units in this army. Well done indeed!

Here are the details of this army list:

Trident Realms - Army List

Game 94 - Trident Realm - 2018/09/10

Greetings!

My training under the watchful eye of Jeff the Australian Master continues! I am really grateful for giving me constant opportunity to play against him. Fortunately, he does not mind me playing with the same army over and over again. He, on the other hand, has something slightly different every game, even if he is using the force from the same faction.

In this game Jeff used Trident Realms one more time. We had quite close battles so far and I hoped I would be able to use the prior lessons to some effect now. The challenge was in the fact that small changes to the army list, combined with Jeff's skills, scenario and terrain always created a unique situation. No matter what I had to be ready to adapt to the circumstances quickly.

Here are the details of the army list Jeff had in this game (unfortunately, I cannot recall the items):

Trident Realms - Army List

6 Depth Horrors , Regiment, Crushing Strength (1), Fearless, Ensnare

Game 93 - Trident Realm - 2018/08/21

Greetings!

Jeff and I continued our semi-regular Kings of War battles series. He was still working on his Trident Realms army and was checking different configurations. That allowed me to keep working on my tactics against this particular force.

Jeff almost never fields exactly the same army so I expected some changes to be made. However, as he still played with his Trident Realms army I also expected certain elements that I met before. In the end, it is always a very interesting challenge where I need to balance what I think I know about the opposing army, what is new, how that changes the way the army operates and how to adapt my own approach to defeat it.

I also made a few changes to my army list, going back to troops rather than regiments in some cases. But also getting back regiment of Palace Guard. That meant some tweaks as well but let's have a look at what Jeff brought to the table this time:

Trident Realms - Army List

3 Depth Horrors , Regiment, Crushing Strength (1), Fearless, Ensnare

Game 89 - Trident Realms - 2018/06/14

Greetings!

After my last game I was really keen to include Windborn cavalry in my army. I really enjoyed the fact that they can be more efficient in terms of shooting but also provide another element to the force - Windblast spell that can be quite useful. In particular in pushing enemy units away from their objectives.

Fortunately, Jeff had time for our rematch and he brought Trident Realms army again. There were some changes based on our last battle too so I was also very curious about new version of the army.

Game 87 - Trident Realms - 2018/05/27

Greetings!

During most recent Australian Clash of Kings I had a chat with our current Master (and defending champion!), Jeff, about pros and cons of using Universal Battle as an additional way to play Kings of War.  I highly recommended the platform because I have been using it for a few years already. For me it is a great opportunity to play against players whom I may not have a chance to play otherwise. In particular, if they are located on the other side of the world!

Universal Battle is also great for trying new army lists and units before committing to buying and/or painting them for your collections. I found that it often helped me choose the next painting project better. Besides, you cannot go wrong with just playing more games of Kings of War.

Jeff was very interested in trying that out and we had a few Skype sessions where we simply went through features of the program, then building and saving units/armies and finally we decided to give it a go for a proper battle. It was also a fantastic opportunity for me to play against Jeff as we have not yet played against each other despite attending a few events together.

Apart from being a fantastic player, Jeff is also known for bringing huge variety of armies to the tournaments. Not only by often playing each event with a different faction but also bringing unique lists in the frame of particular army.

This battle was no different as Jeff brought Trident Realm force that I have never played against or seen before. I was very curious about it and it was fantastic to be a sparring partner for Jeff in the test of both, Universal Battle and new army. Here are the details of this force:

Trident Realms - Army List

6 Depth Horrors , Horde, Crushing Strength (1), Fearless, Ensnare
6 Depth Horrors , Horde, Crushing Strength (1), Fearless, Ensnare

(Edit: I think there were two more items, Banner of Griffin and Staying Stone somewhere, but I cannot tell where at this stage. I will try to update this information later).

Game 84 - Trident Realms - 2018/03/31

Greetings!

This game was played on Universal Battle 2 in January 2018. It was just before KoW Masters in UK and Clash of Kings 2018 in Australia. This report was meant to be posted earlier but due to my misunderstanding I didn't do it. Later on I started posting about Clash of Kings Australia 2018 games and I didn't want to disrupt the pattern of the series of the reports.

My sincere apologies to Ed for my misunderstanding and to all the readers for posting the report later than intended. However, I do hope that the whole context of the duel and the game itself will make up for the delay!

This report is going to feature a very unique battle. I had a great pleasure to play against Ed who played against me several times already. However, there were some circumstances that made this game not like the others.

Ed has qualified (again! well done Ed!) to UK Masters and wanted to have some practice games before the event. He also helped me to do so before Australian Masters so I was very happy to return the favor.

What was quite funny to notice and what we have not realized before setting up the time for the game was that regardless of the time and space discontinuity, two Master players from the opposite hemispheres were about to face each other with their chosen armies. What is more, we are two current Wooden Spoon winners as well! It was becoming more and more epic and this report is going to detail the Battle of the Wooden Spoons where two People's Champions faced each other!

Before I start, however, here is the army list Ed is going to use at UK Masters and which he fielded against my Elves:

Trident Realms - Army List

40 Naiad Ensnarers, Horde, Hammer of Measured Force - 250
- 10 Riverguard, Troop, Crushing Strength(1) - 120

The Valley of Kings 3.1 - Trident Realms - 2017/09/07

Greetings!

In the last game of the tournament I played against Ken "Chaaarge" who happened to be on a guest performance in Canberra. Ken is a very experienced player from Queensland and it was fantastic to have him attending our local event. However, Ken was not commanding his usual all mounted Varangur army this time but thanks to Tasman he played with superbly painted Trident Realms.

It was thus a very interesting situation from my point of view because I had an honor to play against Ken for the very first time but against the army I met before. Another difference was though that the army composition differed a little from these Tasman used earlier.

Trident Realms - Army List

40 Placoderms, Hammer of Measured Force, Horde
- Trident King, Hero
- Leviathan's Bane, War Engine

6 Naiad Wyrm Riders, Brew of Courage, Horde
- Naiad Centurion, Banner of the Griffin, Hero
- Leviathan's Bane, War Engine

6 Depth Horrors, Mace of Crushing, Horde
- Kraken, Monster

6 Water Elementals, Brew of Haste, Horde

Game 51 - Trident Realms - 2017/04/17

Greetings!

This game was long overdue as real life interfered a bit and Ed and I had to postpone it. Fortunately, Ed found some time to play before his trip to US where he is going to attend Lone Wolf KoW tournament. He is bringing his trusty Trident Realms army, that is continuously undergoing a very interesting development.

Ed used this particular force during his last event, Fools of War, and was very successful indeed as he finished the event on 7th position and having the same amount of points as 5th and 6th players (including Dan King himself!). I believe this excellent result was not only due to a very interesting composition of his army (Trident Realms and Dwarf allies) but mainly due to his persistence and very good experience with Trident Realms faction.

I was very curious about Ed's army, both about its potential on the battle field and the modelling aspect. Ed told me, that Dwarfs are actually Pirates! Now it all makes perfect sense to include them in the Neriticans army and I can't wait to see his newly painted units. (the picture above was taken during his most recent tournament where his allies were not yet ready)

Here are the details of the Trident Realm army with Dwarf Allies:

Trident Realms - Amy List

40 Naiad Ensnarers, Horde, Hammer of Measured Force - 250
- 10 Riverguard, Troop, Two-handed weapons - 120
- Leviathan's Bane, War Engine - 95

- Naiad Envoy, Hero, Lute of Insatiable Darkness - 80

40 Placoderms, Horde, Brew of Haste - 305

The Valley of Kings 1 - Trident Realms - 2017/03/31

Greetings!

My sincere apologies for a long delay in posting the battle reports. Here is the one from the last game of the Valley of Kings 1 tournament. This time I had a pleasure to play against another veteran of the Canberran KoW community and a very creative Trident Realm player - Tas.

It would also be a rematch as we had one encounter already so I was really looking forward to seeing how the game would develop this time. Even more so that we used most recent CoK 2017 suggestions and some of the units in the army of Trident Realms got a bit of a boost too.

No wonder Tas took some new units in his most recent incarnation of the army:

Trident Realms - Army List

40 Naiad Ensnarers, Horde, Crystal Pendant of the Retribution
- 10 Nokken, Troop
- 10 Nokken, Troop
- Kraken, Monster
- Leviathan's Bane, War Engine
- Trident King, Hero

Game 37 - Trident Realms of Neritica - 2016/12/07

Ed's army
Greetings!

Some time ago I had a great pleasure to play against Ed and his Trident Realms. We both had quite a few games in the meantime, both armies evolved and we met again on Universal Battle for a re-match.

Ed has qualified for UK Masters and is now busy preparing and testing various options. He intends to bring his beautifully painted Trident Realms. However, he also told me that as probably many other players that chose this faction, that Neriticans are very sensitive to enemy ranged attacks. In order to protect his army from such threat he was looking for different options. This time he decided to bring an allied contingent that is designed to battle enemy shooters - Night Stalkers!

Trident Realms - Army List

40 Naiad Ensnarers, Horde, Brew of Strength - 260
- Kraken, Monster - 230
- Naiad Centurion, Hero, Ensorcelled Armor -  145

6 Depth Horrors, Horde, Fire-Oil - 190

Kings of Cro-Nation 1 - Game 2 - Trident Realms - 2016/11/27

Greetings!

In the second game I finally had a chance to play against Tas and his Trident Realms. Tas is a fellow blogger and you can check his reports (and other interesting posts!) here: Wedgetail on Wargaming

Tas participated in all three tournaments I attended this year but we missed each other out in the previous two. Fortunately, this time we were paired up. He has a beautiful army with some really gorgeous models. It is still WiP but I must say that even with unpainted units and models the army already looks fantastic. I can't wait to see it finished!

The army that Tas brought to this event looked like this:

Trident Realms - Army List

40 Naiad Ensnarers, Horde, Fire-oil - 235
- Kraken, Monster - 230
- Siren, Hero - 140

6 Water Elementals, Horde - 220
- Knucker, Monster - 145
- Trident King, Hero (Large Cavalry) - 220

6 Depth Horrors, Horde - 185
- Coral Giant, Monster - 200

6 Naiad Wyrmriders, Horde - 240
- Naiad Wyrmrider Centurion, Hero (Large Cavalry), Ensorcelled Armour - 185

KoW Game 25 - Trident Realms of Neritica - 2016/09/25

Greetings!

It's been a while since the most recent report but fortunately I had a fantastic opportunity to play against a great player from Oxford, Mr. Edzig, over Universal Battle . Ed has a few armies but his most recent project is about Trident Realms of Neritica, one of the forces that are featured in the Uncharted Empire supplement. He also has started a topic at Mantic forum detailing his progress with the army, I highly recommend checking the pictures, as he has some great ideas, here is the link for your convenience:
Coral reef Trident Realms Neritican Army

Trident Realms of Neritica is not a popular army yet so it was not easy to find some examples of how this army fights. Fortunately for me, however, Ed took part in a most recent tournament at Universal Battle and I could check all his 4 games thanks to posted battle reports. Here are the links to the games:

Round 1 - vs Forces of Nature + Elves
Round 2 - vs Twilight Kin
Round 3 - vs Dwarves
Round 4 - Neritican Civil War

On of the local players from Canberra, Mr. Wedgetail, has also started similar project and he posted some updates on his blog. Check it out, as I hope we will see more from him as he prepares his army for CanCon2017:

Wedgetail - on Wargaming

Ed is practicing intensively for Clash of Kings tournament in England, that is going to take place in October so we used the players pack for this tournament. Because of that he also made some changes to the army list in order to be able to field fully painted army. Here are the details:
