Game 163 - Twilight Kin - 2022/10/23

Greetings!

It's been a while since my last battle report. Once again, real life had quite a lot of "distractions" in store for me in the last half a year. As a result, I had very little spare time for hobby in general.

I am thus grateful that Duncan reached out to me and suggested a game by email. It helped me to rekindle the interest in Kings of War and to try an carve out some time for the hobby, no matter what. I also want to take this opportunity and thank Duncan for his great patience, especially in the period prior to commencing the battle.

I have never had an opportunity to play against Duncan before. I met him virtually in March when he attended Monster March together with his daughter and submitted some really cool models! So it was great to have the opportunity to play the game together as well. What is more, he also decided to field his Twilight Kin. The army I have played before only once. Considering it is currently being heavily reworked before its new incarnation is going to be published, I thought it is going to be an interesting battle.

Twilight Kin has any interesting units to choose from and I did not know what to expect. Here is what Duncan decided to bring this time. Both armies were at 2000 points:

Twilight Kin - Army List

Blade Dancer Neophytes Horde (N), Infantry, Fire-Oil - 205

Game 146 - Varangur - 2020/05/24

Greetings!

In the last, fourth round of the Rage of Isolation tournament, being played on Universal Battle 2, I played against Michael. The Big Boss and Tournament Organiser himself! If you were following my games from this event you would notice I did not post about the round 3. It is due to the fact that, unfortunately, the game was not played and I moved straight to round 4.

Michael plays with many armies but for this event he chose evil Northern Alliance, i.e. Varangur. It's been a while since I played against this army and I have not yet fought against them under 3rd edition rules. It was great that I had the first hand opportunity to see this army in action.

Michael decided to bring the army that is focused on melee and almost every single unit in it was able to deal a lot of damage in its own. Here are the details

Varangur - Army List

Frostfang Cavalry Horde (FC1), Large Cavalry - 265

Game 137 - Undead - 2020/02/09

Greetings!

In the game 4 and the first battle of the second day I played against a really nice looking Undead army commanded by Andrew.

Andrew was one of the players from Direct Misfire team! It was great to meet a new player from Melbourne!

Undead seemed to be quite a popular faction during Clash of Kings but I have not played against them so far and it's been a while since I played against this army as well. I was thus very curious what Andrew decided to choose for his force and here are the details:

Game 131 - Forces of the Abyss - 2020/01/19

Greetings!

Australian Clash of Kings 2020 is approaching fast so I was looking for the opportunities to do some practice games. Fortunately for me, there are some great players out there who are always happy to have a game on Universal Battle 2

We quickly locked dates in our calendars and the first opponent I was about to play was a well known and rightfully feared Australian Master - Jeff.

If I can put up a fight against him, it should be a good indicator I can do so against many other players! So I naturally was very happy to have another opportunity to play against him. It also happened to be the last day before the army lists were due. Hence, it was probably one of the last tests for both of us before we submitted our lists to Matt, our fantastic Tournament Organiser!

Jeff decided to take the evil army to the tournament and chose Forces of the Abyss with some Abyssal Dwarfs allies. Here are the details:

Forces of the Abyss - Army List

Abyssal Ghoul Horde (AG1), Infantry - 150
Moloch Horde (M1), Large Cavalry, Blade of Slashing - 235

Game 110 - Forces of Basilea - 2019/02/27

Greetings!

With CanCon 2019 over I looked at new opportunities to play more games of Kings of War. In particular because I did not participate in Australian Clash of Kings but played some historical games this time instead (please check my reports from Mortem et Gloriam games!).

However, I was very curious what type of armies people brought to the event this time and I wished I could have taken part in two events at the same time!

Hence I talked to some players who participated in the tournament and Jeff was obviously one of them. Surprisingly, he decided to try a completely new army than the one he took to Clash of Kings 2019. The reason was that although he won all his games, he finished 2nd overall. It was because with his Forces of Nature army he often won on scenarios but was not able to rout significant amount of enemy units.

His new idea was about Forces of Basilea army. For this game we decided to play at 2000 points, simply because we were not yet sure what would be the most popular size for the new season.

Forces of Basilea - Army List

40 Penitent Mob, Horde, Infantry, Crushing Strength (1), Headstrong
- Phoenix, Monster, Breath Attack (10), Crushing Strength (1), Fly, Heal (6), Inspiring, Regeneration (4+)
- Mounted War-Wizard, Hero, Cavalry, Fireball (8), Individual

Game 105 - Night Stalkers - 2018/12/27

Greetings!

Last few months I played regular games against Jeff using Universal Battle 2.  It was a great series of battles and it seemed quite fitting that the very last game of 2018 for me would be against Jeff and his Night Stalkers army.

It was also another great opportunity to play under new Clash of Kings 2019 updated rules. There is quite a lot to consider now, I must admit, so to resist the temptation to change too many things at the same time, I followed my own rule and tried to stick to the same army I played with last time.

Jeff usually has the opposite approach and he tries to test as many things as possible. However, he kept the same faction, Night Stalkers and it seemed to me that the core of the army remained the same. It is all about those additional heroes and units he incorporates in his force that make the difference in the end. Here are the details of his army for this game:

Night Stalkers - Army List

40 Scarecrows, Infantry, Horde, Shambling
- Dread-Fiend, Hero, Large Cavalry,  Crushing Strength (2), Vicious, Nimble
- 10 Phantoms, Infantry, Troop, Crushing Strength (1), Fly, Shambling
