Game 95 - Daemons of Chaos - 2014/01/19

Game 2 - Daemons of Chaos - Adam - Battle Line

In round 2 I was pitched against a very good friend of mine, Adam. We have already played against each other a few times but I think we haven't done so at a tournament yet. Adam has a selection of a few armies and this time he decided to play with very soft daemonic force (at least according to the Swedish Comp of 18!)

Game 81 - Daemons of Chaos - 2013/08/03

Game 6 - Daemons of Chaos - Battle Line

The tournament entered its final stage. I was very happy with my results in general. I wondered if I could get yet another win but at the same time I knew I am going to face another tough opponent.

And I was correct! Current No.3 in Oz, Jamie Payne, with whom we had a few nice chats about MSU in general, was my opponent in the final round. Jamie is no stranger to HE so he knew my army in and out. While he brought MSU version of his daemons. It was a very interesting and potent unholy alliance of all 4 gods:

Game 78 - Daemons of Chaos - 2013/07/24

Battle 3 - Battle for the Pass - Daemons of Chaos

It was a rule book scenario with no modifications. I was wondering what kind of army I am going to face this time and I soon found out I am to fight against Daemons of Khorne. What is more, my opponent was a frequent tournament participant and current No. 2 in Oz, Nick Legrand. :)

I haven't had a chance to play against Nick before but his record speaks for itself. I knew I am facing a very good player and that it is going to be a tough challenge. I think both our armies had advantages and disadvantages in terms of the scenario. Daemons could nicely protect their flanks, for example, not allowing my forces to envelop their units.

As I have mentioned before, Nick had a themed, all Khorne army with Mr. Blood Thirster himself as an army general.

Game 75 - Daemons of Chaos - 2013/06/30

Greetings!

Another game against forces of darkness, this time in the form of the Nurgle Daemons with some allied contingents. The army of plague and disease was led by manifestation of  ardnunuff in the form of a certain Great Unclean One. Where "great" apparently refers not to the size but to the sense of humor that creature possesses! :)

I was very kin to play that game simply because I was curious about new daemons. What is more, the armies I faced before didn't have that many nurgle units with the typical exception of the plaguebearers and bsb herald. I expected them to make an appearance but then the rest of the army was still some kind of mystery.

Nurgle Daemons - Army List

Great Unclean One, Level 4, Greater Gift, Lesser Gift - Lore of Nurgle
Nurgle Herald, BSB, Level 1, Lesser Gift, Greater Loci - Death Magic

Game 43 - Daemons of Chaos - 2012/11/15

Greetings!

In Game 3 I played against Peter and his Daemons. I met Peter before at CanCon 2012 where he defeated me with his Warriors of Chaos so it was a good chance for a rematch. On the other hand Daemons tend to be a tough opponent for many armies and when I saw Peter's army list I knew I am up to a challenge again. :)

Army lists and re-battle thoughts

Peter's Warriors were built around big units and his Daemons were similar in that regard. It also seemed that Peter prefers to build tough armies and make up for any penalties from composition score (10/25) with big enough wins against any opponent he faces.

Daemons of Chaos - Army List

Herald of Nurgle, BSB, Noxious Vapours, Stream of Bile

Game 22 - Daemons of Chaos - 2012/05/06

Greetings!

With a little delay (I had to postpone the game for one week) I finally had an opportunity to play against DoC led by dreaded Blood Thirster. I was playing against jwg20 (for those who visit Ulthuan) aka Gatti (for UB players :)). What was also interesting about this game was the fact we knew about our army lists before it. So no hidden aces in the sleeve. :)

Army lists and pre-battle considerations

The whole idea was to provide me with a challenge as there is an impression (and the right one!) that MSU army might have huge problems with armies with big flying monsters. I have had no opportunity so far to play against a Dragon or Blood Thirster and I was definitely curious what would be the outcome of a game against one. In general I knew it is possible as I saw SmithF doing that with his Empire MSU (against DE with Dragon and double Hydra) or with his WoC (against Ghoul King on Terrorgeist backed up by 2 more TG's). Luckily for me jwg20 spotted the discussion about MSU vs. big flying monster and offered a game to test all the ideas in practice. We didn't play with any specific rule pack or composition system. The only condition was for BT to be present. So here we go, his army list:

Herald of Khorne, BSB, Obsidian Armor, Great Icon of Despair

Game 19 - Daemons of Chaos - 2012/03/24

Greetings!

I had a very interesting game against MSU DoC army led by my arch enemy Wardancer (or Eastern Barbarian for those who follow UB :)). Here is the report from that game.

Army lists and Pre-battle considerations

I have seen many MSU armies, it seems that the idea starts to be popular among players with different armies. However, I haven't seen DoC army in that form yet. Maybe it is due to the fact they are quite strong in a more traditional, horde-like build so the players do not see the reason to experiment that much. As always there are a lot of them who are also sceptical about new ideas. But when Wardancer told me he is going to try it out I was very excited and I am glad his first game was against mine MSU HE. Not exactly the proper test for a new army, since we cancel out many of MSU advantages for each other. What I knew for sure, however, is that such games are great fun :)

Game 15 - Daemons of Chaos - 2012/02/26

Greetings!

I had another opportunity to play with my MSU army upgraded to 2500 points. I played against my usual opponent Wardancer (from warhammer.org.uk or Eastern Barbarian for those who visit UB). Wardancer is testing his army in the preparation for a tournament and I was more than happy to step in and help him. Especially that he did exactly that when I needed some sparring partner for CanCon :)

Army lists and pre-battle considerations

Daemons of Chaos still followed slaaneshi theme with some bizarre addition of rotting plague bearers (at least from the background point of view for those who still remember the time of animosity between different gods :)).

Daemons of Chaos - Army List

Keeper of Secrets, Level 4, Siren Song, Torment Blade - Lore of Slaanesh
Herald of Nurgle, BSB, Great Icon of Despair, Stream of Bile
Herald of Slaanesh, Siren Song, Torment Blade
Herald of Slaanesh, Torment Blade
Herald of Tzeentch, Level 2, Master of Sorcery - Lore of Beasts

26 Daemonetess of Slaanesh, Full Command, Siren Standard
25 Daemonetess of Slaanesh, Full Command
2 Fiends of Slaanesh
1 Fiend of Slaanesh
5 Furies

25 Plaguebearers, Full Command, Standard of Seeping Decay

More compact army than last time, with an obvious strength lying in LD modification due to Icon and possible Phantasmagoria. Daemonettes are dangerous too with herlads but the main problem for me lies in dealing with Keeper and Plaguebearers. Keeper does not need any explanation :) while T4 Plaguebearers with Regeneration and very annoying icons can proove too tough. The advantage I could use is the fact I have more deployment drops and with fewer units I might be able to set up good combinations for charges.

Game 2 - Daemons of Chaos - (2011/12/10)

Hello!

I must admit that I start liking playing scenarios as they add to the variety of games and little changes here and there are quite fun. Blood and Glory this time, yet another scenario I have not had a chance to play yet. Let's see how did it go. :)
Army lists and pre-battle considerations

Daemons of Chaos were still of the slaaneshi kind in their majority but other chaos minions were present too. This time the list looked like follows:
Daemons of Chaos - Army List

Keeper of Secrets, Level 4, Siren Song - Lore of Slaanesh
Herald of Nurgle, BSB, Great Icon of Despair, Noxious Vapours
Herald of Slaanesh, Siren Song
Herald of Tzeentch, Level 2, Master of Sorcery - Lore of Light

20 Deamonetess of Slaanesh, Full Command, Siren Standard
12 Deamonetess of Slaanesh, Full Command
2 Fiends of Slaanesh
5 Furies
10 Horrors of Tzeentch
6 Flamers of Tzeetnch
20 Plaguebearers, Full Command, Standard of Seeping Decay

No more horde formation and instead of relatively fragile (as for a daemon) slaaneshi BSB a very resilient Nurgle BSB appeared together with his retinue of plaguebearers. This is definitely a unit very hard to grind down and I decided to avoid it if possible and engage only if I have enough units to attack it from many directions at the same time. Killing the herald would make destroying the unit much easier but T5 and regeneration means it is not an easy task. I was also concerned with a combination of Ld affecting Phantasmagoria in conjunction with Icon of Despair. A very potent combination indeed.

Game 1 - Daemons of Chaos - (2011/11/26)

Greetings!

This is the report from the very first game with MSU style, this is when the journey begun! By re-posting all my battle reports in this blog I aim to collect them all in one place for the purpose of archive. I will post my new reports on various forums (time permitting) but I think it is a good idea to have them all stored in one place too.

Many of them are little outdated due to the fact that respective army books of the forces featured are already updated. However, I believe it can still be an interesting read and besides, it may be nice to have a look where that journey started, how the army evolved and where it is now!

Enjoy!
