Game 162 - Forces of Nature - 2022/04/23

Greetings!

Welcome to my most recent battle report! It took me some time to organize a game (again!) but fortunately, I was able to do so. It was played on a freshly updated Universal Battle 2 platform. This time I had a great pleasure to play against Ed and his Forces of Nature army.

It's been a while since our last game so I was really happy to catch up and play again. Ed has been running variations of the Forces of Nature army for some time, including the formation. However, this time he did not use this particular option. The army list offers nice variety and provides a lot of options to choose from.

Here is the army Ed chose for our game:

Centaurs & Elementals - Army List

Earth Elementals Horde (EE1), Large Infantry - 220
Fire Elementals Horde (FE), Large Infantry - 220

Earth Elementals Regiment (EE2), Large Infantry - 130
Centaur Bray Striders Regiment (CBS), Cavalry, Frenzied Otter - 165
Centaur Bray Striders Regiment (CBS), Cavalry, Frenzied Otter - 165

Hunters of the Wild Troop (HotW), Large Infantry - 90
Hunters of the Wild Troop (HotW), Large Infantry - 90

Beast of Nature (BoN), Monster, Wings, 7 Attacks - 205

Game 147 - Forces of Nature - 2020/10/11

Greetings!

It's been a much longer break since I last posted a battle report. It was not due to lack of battles to write about as I participated in another local online tournament, played on Universal Battle 2 platform.

This tournament was organized by Michael and was called Rage of Isolation 2. If you would like to check the full player's pack, here is the link:

Rage of Isolation 2 - Player's Pack

This time we played at 1850 points and as in the previous event, pre-designed maps were randomly chosen for each round. It made sure all participant played on the same battle field. We used online clocks as well, in order to limit the time of the battle and make the experience as close to any regular event.

There were additional objectives too. Each player had to choose one each game and once the objective was selected, it was not available for the following rounds of the tournament. The objectives were selected in secret so players did not know during the game what is their opponents goal for extra points.

However, the most intriguing changes in comparison to the previous events were about the army selection. First, if you chose a faction that you have never used in the tournaments in the last 2 years - you got extra points. Second, factions were assigned to 5 tiers and depending on which you chose, you could either get bonus points as well, or get some deduced!

The aim was to provide a strong incentive to play with something one has never played before and use armies that may not be as powerful as these that are played with most often.

I must admit that I almost did not take part in this tournament due to rapidly shrinking amount of spare time for hobby. And because of that I didn't quite thought about what else would I like to use instead of my Elves. In the end, I decided to go with the same army I have always played with, despite the heavy handicap it would mean in the event.

There are two main reasons I decided to do so. First, it was easier to scale down my existing army and play with what I know. Second, and more importantly, I would have a great opportunity to test my army against armies I have never played before! That was too tempting to overlook so I hoped my opponents would forgive me using the same army as always.

Game 139 - Forces of Nature - 2020/02/16

Greetings!

In the final, 6th round of Clash of Kings Australia 2020 I faced the army of Forces of Nature commanded by Ken - regular Masters participant and a winner of last year Clash of Kings Australia!

I have played against Ken only twice so far and I lost on both occasions. I hoped I would be able to change the current standings to be a bit more equal. Luckily, one of my very few practice games was against this faction so I wanted to use my experience and apply the lessons learned to this game.

Of course, no two armies are the same and no two players would use even exactly the same army in similar fashion, so I had to come up with a good plan against Ken's Forces of Nature anyway. The army had quite a few units I played against before, be it in the army from the same faction or from another one. Earth Elementals are very good example of these and you could see them featured in the previous battle report.

In general, Ken's army had tough units, fast units and shooting units, which made it versatile and flexible army for sure. Here are the details:

Game 6 - Forces of Nature - Ken

Naiad Ensnarers Horde (NE), Infantry, Hammer of Measured Force, Frenzied Otter - 255
Earth Elemental Horde (EE1), Large Infantry, Mace of Crushing - 225
Earth Elemental Horde (EE2), Large Infantry, Mace of Crushing - 225

Centaur Bray Strider Regiment (CBS), Cavalry, Frenzied Otter - 165

Game 132 - Forces of Nature - 2020/01/21

Greetings!

In my next game I played against another fantastic opponent and UK Master player - Ed! He kindly agreed to help me with some practice before Australian Clash of Kings.

It's been a while since our last game and I knew Ed is currently playing a lot with his new Forces of Nature army he designed for 3rd edition. I had a chance, however, to have a glimpse at his army prior to our game. I must admit I liked it from the beginning!

It is melee orientated army based around two units, Forest Shamblers and Centaur Bray-Striders. It can be moved really fast thanks to many units having Scout ability. It can use Surge to catch some enemies off guard and has some interesting additions that, in my opinion, add a lot of character to this force. Here are the details of the army at 2000 points that Ed brought to our game:

Forces of Nature - Army List

Forest Shambler Horde (FS1), Large Infantry - 200

Forest Shambler Regiment (FS2), Large Infantry - 120

Game 125 - Forces of Nature - 2019/11/17

Greetings!

Welcome to the first battle report from the very first Australian Universal Battle tournament and the last event I took part in that was played with 2nd Edition Kings of War rules! Talk about saying farewell to 2nd Edition with a bang! :)

Many thanks to Michael who organised this event for a few die hard UB and KoW enthusiasts! The tournament had 5 rounds and had initially 12 participants. 10 of us finished it. We used Black Jack scoring system and Michael was announcing the scenario for each round just after the previous one was finished.

If you would like to check the results already and/or are interested in the details of the army lists participants used, please follow the link to Michael's blog:

Australian UB Tournament - Season 1

We played at 2250 points which to me was the perfect size for the games. I was really happy to participate, especially that in 2019 I did not attend many tournaments.

In the first round I drew Yan who chose to use his Forces of Nature army. It was quite a different approach to the army list composition than Jeff's so it really felt like I was playing against a completely different force. Even if it was the same faction. Here are the details:

Game 124 - Forces of Nature - 2019/11/09

Greetings!

Although everyone is building new army lists for the 3rd Edition of Kings of War, I decided to continue with my 2nd edition battle reports.

I decided to do so because of a few reasons. First, I would like to make sure to thank my opponents for great games and the best way I can do it is by writing the battle report! Second, the longer I wait to write the up, the more difficult it would be to recall the details and I simply want to finish them to focus on the new.

However, I also wanted to feature the battle reports from the very first Australian Universal Battle tournament too! This game was my last preparation before we started. I also think that it was a great way of saying farewell to a fantastic game of 2nd edition of Kings of War!

It is probably not a surprise that I played this game against Jeff, by far my most frequent opponent! If I can make something work against him, it simply means I am on the right track.

For this game Jeff chose Forces of Nature army. Not the very first time when Jeff used this faction against me but one can always be sure that Jeff's army list is never exactly the same as last time. Here are the details of his army at 2250 points:

Forces of Nature - Army List

40 Salamanders, Horde, Infantry, Crushing Strength (1), Banner of Griffin
- Beast of Nature, Monster, Crushing Strength (2), Lightning Bolt (6)

Game 109 - Forces of Nature - 2019/02/16

Greetings!

In my last game before CanCon2019 I once again played against Jeff. I had a difficult decision to make, I had to choose between two events at the same time. This year I chose Mortem Et Gloriam. However, I still could help Jeff to test his army one more time before could decide on the final version of it.

This time Jeff decided to trade the speed of the Forest Shamblers, in particular in formation, for high defense of Earth Elementals. Hydras were gone too, with 3 Beasts of Nature instead. Also, there were Druids this time and together with Forest Wardens this army had quite a large number of Drain Lice spells. Here are the details:

Forces of Nature - Army List

6 Fire Elementals, Horde, Large Infantry, Crushing Strength (2), Shambling
- Beast of Nature,  Monster, Crushing Strength (2), Breath Attack (10)
- Forest Warden, Large Infantry, Hero,  Crushing Strength (2), Pathfinders, Nimble, Vanguard, Surge (3), Drain Life

Game 108 - Forces of Nature - 2019/02/10

Greetings!

I played my third game of 2019 against my most regular opponent, Jeff. We played that game prior to CanCon 2019 and Jeff wanted to test some of his ideas before he would submit the final army list for the event.

Jeff decided to choose Forces of Nature this time, which looked like a big change in comparison to his Night Stalkers army. Although my previous game against Ed was also versus Forces of Nature host, this army was completely different in terms of composition. It is yet another example how well Kings of War game is designed that it allows such a variety, even in the frame of the same faction.

We played at 2250 points per side and here are the details of the army list Jeff brought to our game:

Forces of Nature - Army List

6 Fire Elementals, Horde, Large Infantry, Crushing Strength (2), Shambling
- Beast of Nature,  Monster, Crushing Strength (2), Breath Attack (10)

6 Fire Elementals, Horde, Large Infantry, Crushing Strength (2), Shambling
- Beast of Nature,  Monster, Crushing Strength (2), Lightning Bolt (6)

6 Fire Elementals, Horde, Large Infantry, Crushing Strength (2), Shambling
- Forest Warden, Large Infantry, Hero,  Crushing Strength (2), Pathfinders, Nimble, Vanguard, Surge (3), Inspiring (Forest Shamblers only), Drain Life, Inspiring Talisman
- Hydra, Monster, Crushing Strength (2), Regeneration (5+)

3 Forest Shamblers, Large Infantry, Regiment, Crushing Strength (1), Pathfinders, Shambling, Vanguard
- Forest Warden, Large Infantry, Hero,  Crushing Strength (2), Pathfinders, Nimble, Vanguard, Surge (3), Inspiring (Forest Shamblers only), Drain Life, Griffin Banner
- Hydra, Monster, Crushing Strength (2), Regeneration (5+)

Game 107 - Forces of Nature - 2019/02/03

Greetings!

It's been a while since I have posted a battle report from the game played in Kings of War. It was not due to lack of games, quite the contrary! In fact, I have quite a number of them to report so let's try to get back on track!

This game was played against one of my regular opponents, Ed. He has recently participated in UK Masters event (3rd time in a row!) with his Empire of Dust army. However, for the new season and under CoK2019 rules he decided to go for a new project - Forces of Nature.

I have not played against Forces of Nature army for a while. I consider this faction one of the core Mantic armies and it is great to see some models being released for them. Forces of Nature army has also got 3rd formation in CoK2019 update and guess what, Ed decided to take all three of them in his force!

Here are the details:

Forces of Nature - Army List

The Wild Hunt - Formation

10 Centaur Bray-Striders, Cavalry, Regiment, Crushing Strength (1), Pathfinders, Thunderous Charge (1), Brutal
- 5 Centaur Bray-Striders, Cavalry, Troop, Crushing Strength (1), Pathfinders, Thunderous Charge (1), Brutal

6 Earth Elementals, Large Infantry, Horde, Crushing Strength (1), Pathfinders, Shambling, Iron Resolve

All units in this formation have Iron Resolve special rule

- Forest Warden, Large Infantry, Hero,  Crushing Strength (2), Pathfinders, Nimble, Vanguard, Speed 7, Sure (3), Inspiring (Forest Shamblers only)

Game 90 - Forces of Nature - 2018/07/01

Greetings!

After quite a long break I finally managed to attend a tournament. Once again, Matt and Tas were hosting an event in the local shop, Jolt Games. Three games of Kings of War, 2000 points. However, this time with an interesting twist. No magic artifacts or allies were allowed.

I thought it would not impact my army much since I do not have that many upgrades anyway. However, I was curious how would that really affect my army and if the small changes to the list would bring unexpected results.

My first opponent was Michael, against whom I have already played countless battles. However, we have not played against each other since some time. In fact, we both considered challenging each other in the first round but it turned out to be unnecessary.

Michael brought his Forces of Nature this time and his style was quite opposite to mine, instead of Multiple Small Units he brought Multiple Horde Units! Here are the details:

Forces of Nature - Army List

6 Earth Elementals, Horde, Crushing Strength (1), Pathfinders, Shambling, Def (6+)
- Druid, Hero, Bane Chant (2), Heal (2), Surge (7), Individual, Pathfinders, Inspiring
- Beast of Nature, Monster, Crushing Strength (2), Lighting Bolt (6), Pathfinders, Vicious

6 Earth Elementals, Horde, Crushing Strength (1), Pathfinders, Shambling, Def (6+)

Game 88 - Forces of Nature - 2018/05/28

Greetings!

In this battle report I will describe the game I had against another living legend of wargaming, Charles. I had a chance to play against him only once before and it was a few years ago.

Charles has recently won Briscon tournament with his melee orientated Ratkin army but for our game he brought something different. He is currently in the process of basing and modelling his impressive collection of Lord of the Rings models into Kings of War army. This time he created a list from Forces of Nature faction but the modelling theme is Mines of Moria. As he explained, the idea is to have bases with underground water flowing. There are some interesting ideas about the models to represent units too.

In addition, we decided to test the rules for the upcoming local event called Kings of Capitol 2 . This is quite an interesting tournament because this time armies have to be composed without magic artifacts or allies. Hence, I had to review my usual army list too!

Here is what Charles brought to the field this time:

Forces of Nature - Army List

6 Water Elementals, Horde, Shambling, Crushing Strength (1), Shambling, Regeneration (5+), Speed 7
- Beast of Nature, Monster, Crushing Strength (2), Lightning Bolt (6), Fly, Vicious
- Winged Unicorn, Hero, Large Cavalry, Fly, Heal (7), Lightning Bolt (5), Wind Blast (5), Inspiring, Thunderous Charge (2)

6 Water Elementals, Horde, Shambling, Crushing Strength (1), Shambling, Regeneration (5+), Speed 7

Greetings!
First game during the  Kings of Cro-Nation 1 and it was already Civil War! I had a pleasure to play against Richard aka fued and his 4 "dragon" army! Fighting against 1-2 big fliers is a challenge for me and here I have 4! :) But the best way to learn how to deal with the enemy is by facing it.

Let's have a look at Richard's army again:

- Dragon Kindred Lord, Hero (Monster), Blade of Slashing - 315

KoW Game 27 - Forces of Nature - 2016/10/09

Greetings!

I had a chance to catch up with Mr. Laribold and we managed to find suitable time to play a game of KoW again. I had a pleasure to play against him before, once against his Salamanders and once against his Brotherhood armies. Laribold has quite a nice collection of models that allows him to play with multiple forces. I was very curious about the development of his Twilight Kin, for example. But this time he is focusing on Forces of Nature. That is fantastic from my point of view too because it is one of the armies I haven't played against yet.

Lardibold has a few topics dedicated to his armies on Mantic forum so if you are interested (and you should, because he has some very interesting things to say about them!) check the armies dedicated sub-forums. Here is the link to his Forces of Nature army:

I always find his armies very interesting and you can be sure the composition is well thought out. The above topic is a good proof for that. What I find the most intriguing is that we always have different approach to army building, even taking into account the fact we compose them in the frame of different army lists. Here is the army list I faced this time, labeled by Darth Sabre from wargamerau as Multiple Horde Units (MHU)! :)

Forces of Nature - Army List

40 Naiad Ensnarers, Horde, Brew of Strength - 260
- Beast of Nature, Monster, Lightning Bolt (6) - 160
- Druid, Hero, Bane Chant (2), Surge (7), Heal (2), Amulet of the Fire-heart - 130

6 Naiad Wyrmriders, Horde, Brew of Courage - 255
 - Winged Unicorn, Hero, Heal (7), Lightning Bolt (5) - 190

6 Water Elementals, Horde, Amulet of Thorns - 255
- Greater Fire Elemental, Monster - 160
- Unicorn, Heal (5), Talisman of Inspiration - 140

6 Water Elementals, Horde, Brew of Haste - 235
