Game 6 - Skaven - (2012/01/22)

Greetings!

This game was postponed a few times but fortunately we managed to play it eventually. So a rematch against Skaven and Watchtower scenario too! So much can depend on a single dice roll in this game. :)

Army Lists and Pre-battle considerations

The army lists didn't change from our previous battle, although my opponent was considering some improvements. In the end, as the game was postponed a few times and an opportunity presented itself in the last moment he decided to use his previous army list rather than make changes and add too much to the confusion :) So the lists just for reference.

Despite that the scenario requirements meant I had to approach this game differently. First, I needed some plan for both options, i.e. when I can occupy watchtower from the start and when it was my opponent to garrison it first. I noticed that his units are too big to do so and only one unit of slaves was small enough as watchtower guardians. This would give me a good opportunity to replace them with some unit of my own on turn 1 and if that were the case I would assign Swordmasters with Bladelord to do so.

If I won the roll off I would place one unit of Spears there and maybe change the garrison with Swordmasters later on. Regardless of the fact who is going to start the game I still wanted to go for a weighted flank and use watchtower as an anchor. I think it would give me an advantage and with more deployment drops I also wanted to create some hunting parties to take down Abomination and Doom Wheel as soon as possible.

Game 5 - Bretonnia - (2012/01/07)

Greetings!

I played my first battle in 2012 against an old friend and his Bretonnians. He didn't play much in 8th edition and he also wanted to try it out with Universal Battle. Hence my 7th game in preparation to the tournament was a simple pitched battle instead of Watchtower scenario.

Army Lists and Pre-battle considerations

My friend is known for fielding relatively large numbers of Men-at-Arms and his unorthodox approach towards Bretonnia. Hence his armies often lack the most powerful units like Grail Knights. He also decided not to have unit in his army he would not be able to field in real game (such as not assembled 2nd trebuchet). However, I never underestimate knights of Bretonnia as I have already learned that they are very resilient and very fast. As always I present the list as I remember it and I will update it later as soon as I obtain more details.

Bretonnia - Army List

Bretonnian Lord on warhorse, Dawnstone, Sword of Antiheroes, Gauntlet of Duel - General
Bretonnian Lord on Royal Pegasus, Virtue of the Ideal, Enchanted Shield
Damsel on warhorse, Silver Mirror - Lore of Life
Damsel on warhorse, Dispel Scroll - Lore of Beast
BSB on warhorse, Gromril Great Helm, Sword of Might

10 Knights of the Realm, FC, War Banner
7 Knights of the Realms, FC, Standard of Discipline
6 Errant Knights, FC
6 Errant Knights, FC
30 Men-at-Arms, FC
30 Ment-at-Arms, FC, Spears
12 Bowmen
10 Skirmisher Bowmen
Trebuchet

Quite character heavy if you ask me and I was curious how both lords are going to perform this game. Definitely not something you can see often.

Game 4 - Skaven - (2011/12/24)

Greetings!

I was really looking forward to playing this game. Simple battle line but dreaded and filthy Skaven as my opponent.

Army Lists and Pre-battle considerations

Skaven are considered as a very tough opponent for many armies and no wonder why. Many infernal machines, abominations, powerful magic and cheap, expendable troops make this army very flexible and with potential to inflict a lot of damage in a single turn. They also have the ability to field different types of units so one can expect some variations in the army lists but it is hard to tell which unit choice is worse for Skaven enemies as whatever they bring is bad anyway :)

Game 3 - Beastmen - (2011/12/17)

Greetings!

I have another battle report for you. This time Beastmen and an unknown scenario to me so far, Meeting Engagement. :)
Army lists and pre-battle considerations

My opponent is very kind to field different armies and he actually uses that opportunity to try out some unorthdox builds. It makes his life a little more difficult as he has to learn fast and any mistakes due to lack of experience with particular army can back-fire badly. But I never underestimate him as our battles are usually bloody and the end result does not give justice to what actually had happened during the game. As always, I present his list from my memory and I will update the details as soon as I get them.

Game 2 - Daemons of Chaos - (2011/12/10)

Hello!

I must admit that I start liking playing scenarios as they add to the variety of games and little changes here and there are quite fun. Blood and Glory this time, yet another scenario I have not had a chance to play yet. Let's see how did it go. :)
Army lists and pre-battle considerations

Daemons of Chaos were still of the slaaneshi kind in their majority but other chaos minions were present too. This time the list looked like follows:
Daemons of Chaos - Army List

Keeper of Secrets, Level 4, Siren Song - Lore of Slaanesh
Herald of Nurgle, BSB, Great Icon of Despair, Noxious Vapours
Herald of Slaanesh, Siren Song
Herald of Tzeentch, Level 2, Master of Sorcery - Lore of Light

20 Deamonetess of Slaanesh, Full Command, Siren Standard
12 Deamonetess of Slaanesh, Full Command
2 Fiends of Slaanesh
5 Furies
10 Horrors of Tzeentch
6 Flamers of Tzeetnch
20 Plaguebearers, Full Command, Standard of Seeping Decay

No more horde formation and instead of relatively fragile (as for a daemon) slaaneshi BSB a very resilient Nurgle BSB appeared together with his retinue of plaguebearers. This is definitely a unit very hard to grind down and I decided to avoid it if possible and engage only if I have enough units to attack it from many directions at the same time. Killing the herald would make destroying the unit much easier but T5 and regeneration means it is not an easy task. I was also concerned with a combination of Ld affecting Phantasmagoria in conjunction with Icon of Despair. A very potent combination indeed.

Game 1 - Daemons of Chaos - (2011/11/26)

Greetings!

This is the report from the very first game with MSU style, this is when the journey begun! By re-posting all my battle reports in this blog I aim to collect them all in one place for the purpose of archive. I will post my new reports on various forums (time permitting) but I think it is a good idea to have them all stored in one place too.

Many of them are little outdated due to the fact that respective army books of the forces featured are already updated. However, I believe it can still be an interesting read and besides, it may be nice to have a look where that journey started, how the army evolved and where it is now!

Enjoy!
