The Valley of Kings 3.1 - Ogres - 2017/08/30

Greetings!

In the second game I had a pleasure to play against Ogres commanded by Daniel. I have never had a chance to play against Daniel before so I was very happy to meet a new player! Daniel told me he used to play a lot of historical systems so it is good to know that Kings of War became his chosen fantasy system.

I have had a chance to play against Ogres before, however, so I knew I am to have a tough nut to crack. This was to be a battle between armies with quite different approach to warfare by default. However, Daniel emphasized melee aspect with his force even more. Here is his army list:

Ogres -Army List

6 Warriors, Horde, Dwarven Ale (Headstrong)
- Grokagamok, Hero
- Giant, Monster

6 Warriors, Horde, Brew of Haste (+1 Speed)
- Warlord, Hero

The Valley of Kings 3.1 - Dwarfs - 2017/08/26

Brocks, Rocks and Glocks!
Greetings!

In the first game of the Valley of Kings 3.1 event I was honored to be challenged by Matt, our local tireless Tournament Organizer and the man behind organizing Clash of Kings in Australia himself!

I was very happy to play against Matt again as not only he is a top bloke and a absolute pleasure to play against but we also started to develop a Saga of battles between classic enemies in almost any fantasy world - Dwars vs Elves.

As Matt built his army with fantastic models I was also looking forward to see them in action again as they look awesome on the battle field. While I decided to keep almost the same army as in our previous encounters, Matt kept experimenting in the meantime. As a result, a version of his force called affectionately "Brocks, Rocks and Glocks" was fielded this time.

Dwarfs - Army List

6 Earth Elementals, Horde
- Organ Gun, War Engine
- Stone Priest, Hero, Bane Chant (2), Surge (8), Banner of Griffin
- Greater Earth Elemental, Monster

6 Earth Elementals, Horde
- Organ Gun, War Engine
- Berserker Lord, Mounted, Hero, Sparkstone

10 Berserker Brock Riders, Regiment, Blessing of the Gods (Elite)
- 5 Berserker Brock Riders, Troops
- 5 Berserker Brock Riders, Troops
- Berserker Lord, Mounted, Hero

10 Berserker Brock Riders, Regiment, Maccwar’s Potion of the Caterpillar (Pathfinder)
- Organ Gun, War Engine

The Valley of Kings 3.1 - Introduction - 2017/08/20

Greetings!

It's been a while since the last tournament I took part in and even since I posted a report from any game of Kings of War. It was absolutely not planned and I am sorry I could not find a way to cut this break short earlier.

The good news, however, is that I have just attended another fantastic local tournament in Canberra, organized by a great TO Matt and hosted by awesome ThreeD6 guys! It was one day, 4 games event that this time attracted 24 players - the maximum numbers that could be hosted that day! What is more, in addition to great local gamers who tired their best to be there, we also had a strong contingent of players coming from interstates.

It was absolutely fantastic and I hope that in the future there will be a chance to host even more players. As to the event itself, we played Clash of Kings 2017 version of the players pack so I had a chance to potentially play one of the new scenarios. Also historical armies were allowed but with fantasy version of the core rules (e.g. hills are not treated like a difficult terrain etc.)

For the full pack follow this link: The Valley of Kings 3.1 - Player's Pack

If you are interested in checking the scores, army lists and which factions were represented, please, follow this link: The Valley of Kings 3.1 - Results

As usual, I would like to present some introduction before I get to the detailed report from each battle.

Edge of the Abyss - First Impressions

Greetings!

I have just received my copy of Edge of the Abyss - a Summer Campaign in the world of Mantica for the game of Kings of War.

It was greatly anticipated as it is the very first global campaign for Kings of War and I personally hope it will attract a lot of attention from the players all over the world.

One of the advantages of being on a sick leave is that you may have a bit of time to read. I was glad then I got the book I was waiting for now and I started reading it immediately.

I decided to use the short periods of time I could sit and write to provide a bit of first impressions on what I have read.

Although quite a lot is already known there are also parts that I was not aware of and would like to mention. I don't plan to give exact details though. I don't want to spoil all of it before you read the book by yourself! :)

Hobby Update - 2017/07/09

Greetings!

It seems that the unexpected hobby break is much longer than I hoped for.

With no new games yet scheduled (entirely my own fault :( ) I decided it may be a good idea to write a short post about a few things that did happen in the meantime. And to let you know I will do my best to get back to the regular posting about Kings of War!

I am also entertaining an idea of more recent short posts as I have seen that on other blogs and websites where the authors simply briefly discuss a topic. It sounds like a good idea to keep the blog updated and put some thoughts in writing. And with a busy schedule it may be a better way of staying in touch with the hobby!

MSU Elves - some observations

Greetings!

Due to real life interference I had to miss the local event that took place in the always welcoming hall of Three D6 store - The Valley of Kings 2. If you are interested, you can check the results here: The Valley of Kings 2 - Results

It means that I am not going to have any new battle reports at the moment. However, it is not an excuse not to write something about Kings of War! The number of games I have played so far has just reached 50 so I think some kind of generic post about experiences and observation can be a good idea. I still would love to write something more detailed in the future but as it is going to take time.

However, my fellow player Daniel (@Ecumenical_mate on Twitter), suggested I may write something about MSU Elves on the blog. Especially, that he is interested in trying his version of such an army too!

Game 51 - Trident Realms - 2017/04/17

Greetings!

This game was long overdue as real life interfered a bit and Ed and I had to postpone it. Fortunately, Ed found some time to play before his trip to US where he is going to attend Lone Wolf KoW tournament. He is bringing his trusty Trident Realms army, that is continuously undergoing a very interesting development.

Ed used this particular force during his last event, Fools of War, and was very successful indeed as he finished the event on 7th position and having the same amount of points as 5th and 6th players (including Dan King himself!). I believe this excellent result was not only due to a very interesting composition of his army (Trident Realms and Dwarf allies) but mainly due to his persistence and very good experience with Trident Realms faction.

I was very curious about Ed's army, both about its potential on the battle field and the modelling aspect. Ed told me, that Dwarfs are actually Pirates! Now it all makes perfect sense to include them in the Neriticans army and I can't wait to see his newly painted units. (the picture above was taken during his most recent tournament where his allies were not yet ready)

Here are the details of the Trident Realm army with Dwarf Allies:

Trident Realms - Amy List

40 Naiad Ensnarers, Horde, Hammer of Measured Force - 250
