Bases for Kings of War army - Part 1

Greetings!

One of the great aspects of the hobby (and sadly the one I have neglected for a long time again) is modelling. And one of the aspects of modelling of your army is creating nice bases for your warriors and units. I wanted to create something more than just drybrushed sand and static grass and was looking for the idea to address that.

Kings of War offers a unique option here. Since your units have fixed dimensions it is possible to create small dioramas. The term used by KoW players in that case is "multi-basing".

KoW Game 16 - Kingdoms of Men - 2016/04/08

Greetings!

I keep being lucky and get to play against new opponents and new armies. It is a great experience indeed  because I am happy to meet new players. At the same time it is even more exciting to face the challenge of playing against a force I haven't met on the battle field before. It means that I need to come up with the plan on the spot and put it to the test immediately!

This time I had an honor to play against Meniskusmike from Mantic forum. We managed to find a suitable date for both of us despite quite a significant time zone difference. Mic brought his Kingdoms of Men army and it was also the first time when I was about to play against the force with an allied contingent! Mic added two regiments of Brotherhood knights that really added nice flavor to his army and reinforced Crusader theme I imagined it might use in terms of modelling project.

Mic was very kind to provide details on his army list before the battle and here it is:

Kingdoms of Men

40 Footguard, Horde, Dwarven Ale - 235
- 10 Militia Mob*  - 50

KoW Game 15 - The Herd - 2016/03/23

Greetings!

It took me some time but I have finally had my opportunity to play Kings of War with real miniatures! My very good friend, Adam, against whom I played many times when Warhammer 8th Edition was the main fantasy game around, offered a game in a local store, Jolt Games.

It is a very nice venue and staff is very friendly. I really liked the place and I highly recommend it to anybody who is in Canberra. Here is the link if you are interested:

Adam initially planned to bring his Dwarfs. He has a few armies to choose from and was considering checking how they might perform in Kings of War. However, last minute decision was made and he picked the Herd instead. Thanks to that I had a chance to play against yet another army I haven't faced on the battle field yet!

The Herd - Army List

20 Longhorns, Regiment, Dwarven Ale (Headstrong) - 155
- 10 Harpies, Troop - 90
- 10 Harpies, Troop - 90

Great Chieftain on Tribal Chariot, Hero, Bow, Wine of Elvenkind - 240

KoW Game 14 - Dwarfs - 2016/03/12

Greetings!

It has been much longer since the last battle report than I expected so let me start with sincere apologies for a delay in updating this blog. I hope this post is going to be the first of a regular updates, also at much higher frequency.

My regular sparring partner, Eastern Barbarian, has acquired recently a very nice collection of some old school, metal Dwarf miniatures and added a few more recent designs to make it complete for his brand new 2000 Dwarf army for Kings of War. Having many different forces to choose from he wanted to give the new one a try. It was also due to the fact that he enrolled for a local tournament and needed some play testing before deciding which army to take in the end.

It was an excellent choice from my own point of view simply because I haven't had a chance to play against Dwarfs yet and it looked like a classic match too. This is the army I faced:

Dwarfs - Army List

40 Ironclad, Horde, Orcsbain's Amulet of Thorns - 215
- 5 Berserker Brock Riders, Troops - 135
- 5 Sharpshooters, Troops - 100
- Flame Belcher, War Engine - 85
- Greater Earth Elemental, Monster - 160
- King on Large Beast, Hero - 170

10 Berserker Brock Riders, Regiment, Maccwar's Caterpillar - 230
- Flame Belcher, War Engine - 85
- Berserker Lord, Hero, Mounted - 150

10 Berserker Brock Riders, Regiment, Blade of Slashing - 215

20 Rangers, Regiment - 180
- Ranger Captain, Hero - 90

20 Rangers, Regiment - 180

KoW Game 13 - Brotherhood - 2016/01/31

Greetings!

One of the great things about Kings of War at the moment is that one gets to play against so many armies that all fall into a category called "new opponent". There are 20 army lists total in Kings of War Rulebook and Uncharted Empires supplement combined and that does not include allies!

It is easy then to play a game after game against totally new enemy, one has no prior experience with. It was exactly that situation with the most recent battle where I had a pleasure to face the knightly might of the Brotherhood! What is more, I was playing against Mr. laribold, whom I faced before. Laribold is now trying out different army lists as his collection allows him to play multiple forces. I have already met his Salamanders, saw his Forces of Nature in action but this time it was up to Knightly Orders to teach the Outcasts the lesson. Laribold told me his army is based on old school Kislev models from Warhammer and this time he brought the following:

Brotherhood of Dobrensk - Army List

20 Order of the Brotherhood, Horde, Maccwar's Caterpillar - 365
5 Villein Reconnoiterer Troop, Warbow of Kaba - 105
5 Villein Reconnoiterer Troop - 100
- Devoted on Horse, Hero, Heal(4), Surge(5), Talisman of Inspiration - 145

10 Order of Redemption, Regiment - 260
- 10 Villein Bowmen, Troop - 85
- Exemplar Hunter on Horse, Hero, Blade of Slashing - 125

10 Order of the Abyssal Hunt, Regiment, Brew of Strength - 250

3 Order of the Forsaken, Regiment - 170

20 Villein Martyrs, Regiment - 115

6 Water Elementals, Horde, Diadem of Dragonkind - 250

KoW Game 11 - Forces of Basilea - 2015/12/18

Greetings!

I was very lucky that my good friend, Darth Sabre (check out his blog here: Darth's Miniature Wargaming Adventures) found some time for another intercontinental, time traveling gaming experience in the magic world of Mantica. Among his many hobby projects, Darth is looking for his perfect Basilean army list and in addition to that, he also wanted a revenge after our previous encounters. His new army, inspired by a great collection of Lord of the Rings miniatures (looks like Gondor is a fantastic range for Basilean army!), took the following shape:
